Rabbit Hunters • c. 1535-50 • Germany

Archival block print restored and printed, then watercolored by me, and custom archival framing.

I recently read a book that explored this print in particular and once again I find myself taking exception with other scholar’s assessments. Until you have actually tried your own hand at practicing the craft, perhaps in my now-opinion, you shouldn’t speak on it for you do not have an intimate working knowledge of the craft or the process.

This piece was done to highlight a popular trend of the 16th century: the world of upside down; a commentary of injustice and inequality. On a smaller scale than political tyranny, I loathe scholarly tyranny which offers speculation removed and from afar without ever picking up a blockcutter or paintbrush.
