Knight, Death, & the Devil

After an engraving by Albrecht Durer; Nuremberg; 1513

The Great Christian Knight passes through the valley of the shadow of death. On his right, the devil is behind him, yet on his left, death waits for the knight, mounted and holding an hourglass of time. Death stares at the knight as if to say; “You may have passed the devil, but you shall never pass me.”
